Synthetic Fibres Or Human Hair?

Take one glance at your favourite pop star’s Instagram feed and you’ll notice that wigs are definitely a big thing these days. Hollywood celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga are rocking different styles in various lengths and colours. Straight, frizzy, short, or long; blonde, black, or even neon orange—really, you dream it and there’s a wig for it.

Of course, wigs aren’t just a fashion statement. People have been using artificial hair for years because of medical, cultural, or religious reasons. As wigs are becoming more mainstream these days, we’re seeing a lot of them in magazines, social media, and fashion shows. They’re a great way to express yourself and change your look without having to actually take scissors to your locks!

Want to get your wig on too? We’re dishing out the ultimate guide to wigs!

Synthetic vs. Human Hair

Wigs are usually made from either human hair or synthetic fibres. These two materials both have pros and cons depending on price, versatility, and quality. Human hair is definitely more expensive, but it’s also more versatile when it comes to styling options. You obviously can’t use heating tools like a curling iron on synthetic hair—it will burn!

While some may argue that human hair wigs are better because they look more authentic, hair experts confirm that synthetic wigs made of premium quality are equally as good. There’s been a lot of tech advances when it comes to producing synthetic materials, and the newer ones look and feel just as real as human hair.

How to Put On Your Wig

Before you put on your wig, make sure that your hair is brushed back and away from your face. If you have longer hair, tie it in sections and use pins to keep it flat. Some use hair spray for a better hold and to avoid bulges. Wig liners can also be useful in securing your hair.

Once you’ve secured your natural hair, hold the wig at the nape and put it on from the front to back. Slip it on just like you would wear a bathing cap. Position it along your hairline and secure with grips. Remember to tuck in any strays!
